Founding letters · free during the beta
Some things are easier to write than to say.
Write a letter to Tara. She'll read every word, and within 48 hours a letter will arrive, written only for you.
Dear Tara is in beta. For now, founding letters are free, and Tara is answering a small number of them.
How it works
A real person. A real letter.
No chatbot, no template, no advice from a stranger who skimmed your story. Tara reads your letter slowly, sometimes twice, and writes back to you in her own words.
Write
Start with "Dear Tara," and say what's on your mind. You don't need to write well, and you don't need to know what you're asking.
Send
Your letter goes to Tara and no one else. Use any name you like. Nothing is ever published without your permission.
Receive
Within 48 hours, Tara's reply arrives in your inbox: a personal letter, usually 500 to 900 words, written for you alone.
What people write about
a marriage that's gone quiet·a mother who's getting older·the job they can't leave·the friend who stopped calling·a decision they keep not making·grief, a year later·who they are now
There's no wrong reason to write.
About
Who is Tara?
My name is Taarani. Here, I sign my letters Tara.
I've always been drawn to people's stories.
The things people say when they finally feel comfortable. The things they don't say at all. The complicated relationships, impossible decisions, quiet heartbreaks and little victories that rarely make it into conversation.
I'm a writer, and over the years, I've found myself listening to an extraordinary number of real-life stories — some shared by friends, some by strangers, and many that have stayed with me long after the conversation ended.
Dear Tara grew from that fascination.
I wanted to create a quiet corner where you can put your thoughts into words, without having to make them sound polished or make them make sense.
You write.
I listen.
And I write back.
— Tara
Before you write

Questions
Before you send
Is this AI?
No. Every letter is read by Tara, and every reply is written by her. No AI is used to write, draft or edit replies.
How long will it take?
Tara aims to reply within 48 hours. If a reply is going to be late, she'll write to let you know.
Is it anonymous?
You can use any name you like. Tara needs an email address so she can write back, and it's used for nothing else unless you ask to hear about paid letters.
What if my situation is serious?
Please don't wait for a letter. Tara isn't a crisis service. Call Talian HEAL on 15555, Befrienders KL on 03-7627 2929, or 999 in an emergency. You can still write to Tara too.
Why is it free?
Dear Tara is in beta. The first letters are free while Tara shapes the service. Paid letters will open later, and you can ask to be told when they do.
Can I write again?
Yes. Once you've received Tara's reply, you're welcome to write back.
